66 with 289, T5 and Borgeson steering, any idea which headers?

Can anyone confirm which headers will work with the above setup and stock motor mounts? I already got a set of JBA shorties, but not sure yet if they will clear everything and would really like long tubes anyway.

my painter is finally able to get working on my car and I am trying to get everything lined up to stab the motor in it as soon as it's home.

FYI I called CJ Pony and asked their tech department this question. They told me the dimensions on the borgeson box are not significantly different than the stock box and the linkage provides more clearance than stock so any header that fits 289/c4 should work ok with the borgeson and t5. He did recommend going with a cable clutch over a hydraulic one to eliminate the clutch master cylinder for more clearance. Since I still have to order the trans I can go either way on the clutch.

the only thing I know for sure is I don't have the $$ left in the budget to buy 2+ more sets of headers to experiment with so really trying to get this right.

Both my cars have Try Y headers one with a T5 and one with a TKO 600 and both have hydraulic clutch setups. Both have plenty of clearance. Once more, NO CLEARANCE ISSUES AT ALL! Not even close.

I absolutely hate cable clutches. There are issues in some cars at the firewall with metal fatigue and cracking. When the cable breaks you are stuck. Not that the other setup is any less of an issue if it breaks. the feel of hydraulic is better too.

Just my .02.

Stangfix member Bravenrace has the Borgenson Steering, 289 and T5 with cable clutch in his 65 Fastback and uses Hooker Super Comp Headers...

I have a cable clutch setup in my car with Doug's tri y headers. I had to make a small bracket to move it away from the header. It's been like that for 7 years without any problems. Knock on wood..

thanks everyone for the responses. I got some thinkin to do. with these oddball combinations it's tough to know what parts are gonna play well with the others, and I don't have unlimited resources to keep trying things... it's nice to be able to benefit from the experience and ideas of others.
