67 6 cylinder long shot question...

All,
I know that this is a long shot question but I'm going to ask anyway. On my 67 sport sprint with 200 CID engine there is an anchor plate on the firewall where a linkage arm from the carburetor connects to. Does anyone out there know where I can get one? Does anyone have any technical data that would allow me to fabricate a new one? And most importantly, does anyone have a picture(s) of the carburetor and the linkage? Or, does anyone know of a publication that would have information on the linkage setup?

Lots of questions I know, but every reference I have talks about the carburetor and little to nothing about the linkage setup.

TIA,
Bruce

This?

Not quite; the part on the firewall that I'm trying to locate is an L shaped part that attaches to the firewall with two screws. It sticks out from the firewall and the linkage arm attaches to it with a press on retainer as best I can tell from some of the faint diagrams I've been able to see.

In addtion, if someone had pictures of an actual installation that I could check mine against it would help. I've checked all the car show pictures I've taken and the cars are either 8 cylinders or I didn't get a picture of that particular area.

thanks,
Bruce

can you post a pic of what you have?

The reason that Craig (Tarafied1) is asking is that I recently gave him a '67 6Cyl Coupe. I stripped pretty much everything off of the car, but I'm unsure exactly what part you're referring to. Either it's still on the car.... that Craig now has..... or I have it in a box from when I stripped the car.

When I get home from work this evening I'll take a picture of what's left of the part and where it positions and get it posted.

thanks for all the help guys.

you read my mind!

No problems Bruce. The '67 Coupe that Craig now owns was a running/driving car before it was disassembled so I'm fairly confident that one of us should have the part you're looking for.

Okay, let's give this a try; in this long shot if you look almost dead center you'll see two hexhead bolts attached to the firewall. Approximate position is almost directly above the start motor.

In the close up of the firewall; the plate with the two hexhead bolts, from what I have been able to determine there should be a 90 degree bend and a plate sticking out into the engine bay that the carburetor linkage attaches to.

And, oh by the way, the anti-freeze drip is not the result of hoses leaking; I just changed the vacuum control valve directly above. :)

Thanks again guys.

well the POS coupe has the bolts like yours still there but nothing else... maybe Dave has the part or it was missing already?

Have you checked the factory shop manual? How could that throttle linkage just bolt to a plate on the firewall. There would be no way to activate the linkage using the gas pedal. Like rick said, Are you sure that linkage doesn't go to one of these or something similar:

edit: on page 10-17 of the factory shop manual, top half of the page, there is a diagram showing this piece. It looks as if it could be easily made out of any piece of scrap steel. It holds the accelerator shaft assembly, part number 9725.

Its very similar to the one posted. Same idea, just a little different. Heres the pic from my manual. Wheres the rest of your throttle linkage to the pedal?

Great!

Now I know exactly what I'm looking for..... but I can't remember removing/disconnecting it when disassembling the POS '67. I'm guessing that if I have it... it'll still be attached to the throttle linkage, which I know that I have.

I'll start looking for it this evening, but bare with me as it's supposed to start freezing rain/snowing any minute and these removed parts are stored in the rafters of my unheated greenhouse.

No rush, I appreciate your willingness to even look. If one can't be found then I am more than willing to fabricate one but I would prefer having some measurements of one to work with rather than just going off half-cocked.

thanks again all,

Bruce
