68 T-5 speedometer cable length

I could have sworn we've discussed this already, and I've had no luck with search or just looking back through the pages of posts here.

So, pardon in advance if we've already hit this.

68, 302, T-5 with late model bell/cable clutch (not that that matters)

What length of speedometer cable do I need to fit? I'm sure there's a range of lengths that is long enough to make it easy to hook up the speedo and set the cluster in place but not so long as to have excessive cable burning on the headers and exhaust.

NPD's catalog lists a lot of different options for cable lengths, and I'm pretty sure I've heard the C-4 length is pretty close, but don't recall exactly and I need to get this next order in.

If you have your stock one, use it. the repops are to long, even if its a direct replacement. You can get a replacement from local auto parts store.

Nope, the one I had was replaced 10 years ago or so, so it was a repop, was too long, and I burned through the case on the exhaust so it got thrown out on disassembly.

I'll check locally and see what comes up.

After going through so much crap with ones which were too long, I had mine custom made locally. Now it's a cat's MEOW!!!!

I had mine custom made and the end in the speedo broke. Now I need a new one. I got a repop and have yet to try to install it. Maybe I will get the end replaced.

I think the one I ordered is for the 4 spd car. The parts person told me it should fit. I am more worried about the too short thing. I can route the too long part in a way that it should not be in the way.

Autozone lists one at 60" and another at 83". The ones in the NPD catalog vary from 48 11/16" for a 66 3spd to a 66 9/16" for 67 C6, and numerous in between. I'll try the 60" and see how it goes.

I had mine cut to 55" and it is perfect.

My '66 has a T5. I used a local (Autozone?) 60" cable. While the 60" length is "okay", I can see where a 55" length would probably be a perfect fit. Having the 60" length allows for a larger bend radius coming out of the side of the transmission.

For the most part speedometer cable far into two lengths depending on wich side it is routed too. Driver side the cable is about 60" passenger side mounted cable for a Toploader normally about 83".

I used the 60" from Autozone for the T-5 and it fit perfect. I like having a little bit extra length to hook up to the cluster for getting it in and out.

That was full of softballs, so no quotes with sick comments you wackos.
