'69 clutch pedal. Something amiss...

Fantastic

New Member
Well, After so many fights with things fitting, I'm sticking to stock on more parts than I normally would have.
My '69 Mach I has a 351w that is a proper year fit for the car (pulled from '69 Cougar). The 4sp Toploader is an RUG-AG, correct for the car.
So you can imagine my eyebrows raised when the shop called and told me the clutch linkage does not fit correctly and they were planning to modify the new parts to make things fit. The Z bar and linkage pieces was purchased new from Laurel Mountain Mustang. I was more suspisious of the Z bar or the clutch fork. Something is amiss in this story.

I'm waiting for some photos, but I wonder how many different clutch forks and Z bars were made. Modifying to Make new parts fit just pisses me off..

Fantastic!

While converting my 69 to manual trans I found out that the 69 351 windsor z-bar is unique. Nothing else fits properly. IIRC, the lower rod to the fork was also unique.

This is the reason I went hydralic.

You'll find most year Mustang clutch linkage parts are unique to that year as well. Furthermore, most repro z-bars are not good matches to the OEM versions. Barillaro Speed Emporium has a new system with adjustable heim joints everywhere, and is getting good reviews.

Specifically, what is the problem? Is it the upper arm of the equalizer bar? or lower arm? And whatever arm it is....what is the problem? Too long? Too short? Not offset enough?

In my case, the stock 68 lower arm of the equalizer bar cut right down the middle of the intermediate exhaust pipe for a Cleveland motor's stock exhaust manifold. I needed a lower arm which was positioned further inward. Finally found a 69-70 boss 302 equalizer bar in the NPD catalog that worked pretty good but I still tweaked the lower arm a little more.
