Maybe, but back then Mercury was trying to be the next step UP in luxury between a Ford and a Lincoln. And the style for luxury was cam back roof lines. Although the Cougar didn't have a strict cam back roofline the sports roof was in the completely opposite direction. Yeah I know there were great Cougar versions that screamed sport but the initial design process usually doesn't think about that when the car is made.

Okay, maybe I should have said that would sell well now. (in my humble opinion anyway)

There you go--I knew it reminded me of something(outside of the obvious sports roof mustang)---thats it---Javelin--or amx---those were really nice looking but no one wanted to own one, talk about no brand recognition.
