They are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches lower. I did it while I was replacing my seat risers. I had replacement 67 risers and comparing them side by side you could definitely tell a difference. Wish I had taken a pic of them side by side.

I destroyed my 67's taking them out so I couldn't compare them side by side but yes, it makes for more head room. Also easier to get in and out as I would get hung on the steering wheel. I have the stock BIG steering wheel because I don't have PS. it's a great mod. I think Bill inspired me to go this way. I'm 6' and 215 lbs so it was a tight fit.
 
Craig I thought you installed a wood wheel, or am I thinking of someone else?

I did have a Grant steering wheel but it didn't really fit good. I also broke the turn signal cancel cam so I just put the stock wheel back on
