69 heater box rebuild

Does anyone know if there should be some sort of gasket/sealer between the 2 halves of the heater box in a 69?

I have pulled mine apart & cleaned, painted, glued in new foam etc., and it seems like there should probably a gasket of some type, but there wasn't one in the rebuild kit and all the foam seals were pretty much dust. I am thinking of maybe using a little 3M strip caulk. Or?

Other than that, all I need to do is test the new heater core for leaks & put it all back together :pep

I used the strip caulk for mine. Just laid a single bead in the side that has the channel, squeeze the two sides together and then scrape off whatever squishes out from the seam.

Yup, mine was glued with some sort of black stuff originally but was all dry and crumbly. I used strip caulk on mine as well.

Got pics of your finished box?

Unfortunately, I do not. Didn't even occur to me. I was just so glad to be done with it, all I wanted to do was get it put back in ;)
