73 351 Cleveland Not wanting to turn over.

I put a new ignition switch, new key lock, new starter, new solenoid, and battery cables, and new starter to starter solenoid wire. And the battery is charged. The battery is out of my 67 Mustang with a 289. The car is having difficulty turning over. Like a car does when the battery starts to get low. Could the battery being for a smaller engined car have anything to do with it being weak at turning the engine? It is in neutral.

I was going to say weak battery or ground issue. What gauge battery cables are you running including the one to the starter? Has the motor turned over easy before? Meaning is this a new problem? Do you have a ground wire from the motor to the firewall? IF so, did you make sure that cable has a clean contact to bare metal at both ends?

To be sure not to have a "ground" problem , make a connection from the minus pole of the batt to the engine itself by a one jumper cabel.
All wires are tight ?All wires are thick enough?

Yes this is a new problem. I have no idea what gauge the cables are. I just got them from the local Napa. It did turn over easily before. I have the a ground from the battery to the engine block.

Check your timing, it could be too far advance.
Also the battery size is differant for the 351C vs the 289 in cranking amps on adverage.
289 group 24 batt is about 575 cranking amps and the 351c needsmore juice using a 850 amp battery.

As previously asked and mentioned, do you have a strap going from the motor to the firewall or body?

Regarding a 24 battery, I'm using a 24F Autolite battery with my Cleveland and it cranks over very easy.

No, I do not have a strap going from the motor to the body, but I will try it. I have some of my friends coming over to see if they can figure anything out. Will the little black wire that came on the negative batter cable I got work to ground it to the firewall?

Yes, anything will work, just needs a good solid ground.

They brought a new battery, and it turned over without a problem. Still no spark. Were getting power to the coil, and to the module. Just no spark. So it looks like I have finally made the decision to take it back a step, and take it back to square one with a stock distributor with Points. Then just get it drivable and switch it over to an ICE ignition when I get the 750 bucks.
