8.8 rear from 89 Fox?

Last night it was mentioned how Gertrude can only spin one tire, and another club member said he had an 8.8 posi rear I could have out of an 89. Free. Said if it would work, it's all mine.

I know nothing about rear end swapping so I'm trying to figure out if this 8.8 would work, what all would be involved, etc.

Help! lol

First off, Ford doesn't do "posi". You're hanging around with too many Chebbie guys.

You'd need to get it shortened and all the wrong brackets removed and the right ones welded on. Whole lot easier to just pull out the peg-leg unit you have and install a traction-loc in its place. Your 8" will be just fine after that.

Terry is correct Kat,
Ford calls it Traction Lock or Limited Slip Differential (But we all know what they mean)
And the 8.8 used a link and coil spring arrangement while Gert has Leaf springs.
The Fox width is 59.25" wide and Gert is 57.25"
Maybe you can get it for free but it will cost you more in the long run.
