Been anticipating taking the stang on a long journey to the beach tomorrow for MBB III. 5+ hours in the car that has "history". I took it today to fill up with gas and when I got in it to start it I turned the key and heard a humming spin. WTH? Obviously the starter bendix wasn't kicking out. :rp I hadn't loaded my toolbox in it yet so no hammer. I rolled it out of the way and found a piece of concrete and after 4 times banging on the starter and trying to crank it finally fired. Got it home and cranked it 3 times with no issues. I DO NOT have time tonight to change a starter. If it cranks in the morning it's going. If not, another stang will go. :rp :rp :rp :rp :rp

Don't forget to pack that piece of concrete.

You do know that my voodoo doll of you is set to kick in tomorrow right about halfway into your drive. Today was just a test....glad it worked!

Enjoy

IIRC, Loren has 3 or 4 mini-starters laying around :ep Maybe he could send one up to MB.

You know I would, but (fingers crossed) it's one of the few parts that has been trouble free.

Yeah..... disconnecting the POS cable lead and then removing the two bolts holding the starter to the bellhousing takes a while.... figure 4 minutes to remove and 5 to install. Who has that kind of time?

Just so I have this straight....

We're now on the third iteration of our Myrtle Beach Blast. Where those of us with running/driving cars make the trek and up until this point you haven't been able to bring yours. You've worked to pretty much rebuild the entire engine in the last year (and likely spent a couple grand in the process) with the expectations that it would be ready for the drive to MB. And now with 18 hours until departure time you're going to let a "10 minutes under the car" task prevent you from bringing the car?

Top bolt is a bear with the headers. It may be a 10 minute fix for someone with your skillz but remember, I ain't the Great Sanborn. I'll buy one down there and let you show me how it's done. I tell you what, you do it in 10 minutes on Saturday and I'll buy all your beer Saturday night. Go over 10 minutes and you buy mine. I'm back at work and will not get home until close to 11 and will not be crawling under the car. Period. So, we have a bet for Saturday?

Returned the DB Electrical China brand mini... lost $25 in shipping! I just have the CHM generic mini copy of the PowerMaster 9603 that needs another rebuild... I haven't tried the banging the starter trick. :lol

Made it to AutoZone before they closed and picked up a starter. It will be in the trunk.

The trick is to use a piece of concrete.

Not all of us can flap our way back home Dumbo.
