As you know, back in November I started a new job working at a vet clinic. I was getting 26hrs a week + weekends. Well there's another tech working there, a guy, who's been there like 2yrs. Last year he was going to college part time but this semester, he's going full time. Well the office manager told me this and said she'll be increasing my hours to help cover his hours that he can't work. Ok great! No mention of hiring anyone else. She even said if anyone calls, to tell them we're not hiring.
Well Saturday I got a new schedule and there's a new person on it. Ok cool, she hired someone else. Then I looked and noticed I went from 26hrs a wk (not including weekends) down to 23.5hrs. I lost a couple hours. Then I counted this new girls hours... 35hrs a week. :wtf I can assume she's like me and the other guy and gets weekends as well which would put her at more hours. Even if she doesn't work weekends, she still has more hours than me.
I was talking about it with my husband we both think it's a little screwed up. Especially since she told me she'd be increasing my hours. I doubt the new schedule is a typo and I'm suppose to work the 35hrs since I asked her about it to double check what hour I'm suppose to come in on Monday. Maybe this girl worked there in the past and had to quit due to school/job conflict and that's why she gets the most hours? Maybe she has more job experience or a 2yr vet tech degree? :shrug I could see how either of those would trump me in pay.. but hours? Especially since the manager knows I have no schedule conflict. I can show up at any time, any day, any weekend. Either way, I still feel a little cheated since I was told I would be getting more hours. If by chance I got a little raise (I'll have been working there 3 months on Feb 4th so a little raise might be happening) then maybe it wouldn't feel so bummed about it. But she hasn't mentioned anything about a raise. Even when I was hired, she never mentioned after 3 months or 6 months there would be a raise. I'm sure they give raises..the other guy said if you show up on time, work hard, and do your job good she'll give you a raise. He gets $9/hr and started out like me at $7.25/hr.
My husband said if it were him... he'd started looking for a new job because that is just :censoreded up. It's hard finding vet clinic jobs around this town, and I told him that. Plus any extra money is always good to have to help pay bills. He said here next month, extra money from my job to pay bills wouldn't be all that important since his VA benefits increased and he gets BAH from his GI stuff for attending college. Any money I get will be back to Gertrude stuff.
Ok hell... speaking of jobs. Manager just texted me and said the afternoon is dead slow (aka no appts) and the guy tech can handle it and will call me if it gets busy - meaning I don't have to go in today. This is not uncommon. When days are dead slow, no point having 2 people there standing around doing nothing. I don't mind that especially since prioroty is given to the guy who's worked there 2yrs.
Anyway.. I don't know if I should bring this up with the manager about losing hours or not. I'd like to have more hours or atleast stay at the 26hrs I had, but on the other hand, less hours does mean more time to work on Gertrude, spend with husband, kids, etc.
