Adding Roller Lifters to 289

Hi!
As a follow-up to my roller rockers question, I am wondering what sort of work is needed to be done to add roller lifters/roller cam to a 289? The 289 in question is from a '67, and it now resides in my '65. This is something I MAY do in the future, as the 289 is running very well and both it and my '65 are very happy with one another.

Regards,
/s/ Chris

They sell retrofit roller lifters that will drop right in (with a cam change, of course). THey are pricey, ~$3-600 depending on which ones you get. Here's a set from Lunatti:

They also sell kits to retrofit the the OEM style spider/dogbone lifters. It is a little cheaper but will require drilling & tapping your block. For my money, go with the retrofit - but I wouldn't touch the 289 if it's running well.

What I'm doing: find a used $150 5.0 and build it, put the 289 in storage or sell it.

+1 If it's running well, don't even consider such a mod. Now when you forget to put oil in and blow it up, now that's the time to think about adding the roller stuff.

Thanks for the comments! I agree with you about leaving the engine alone, and this was only an idea if a rebuild or other work needs to be done in the future. I was also glad to hear that there are pure retrofit kits available that don't require machining work.

Cheers,

Chris :bowdown
