aerospace brakes?

Im going ot be looking at a disc brake upgrade on my 69 with drums. I like the look of this kit and its not too expensive. Will it bolt on to my spindles? I know Ill beed new brake lines. Whats your opinions on the kit?

64-73 MUSTANG

Yea Ive looked at all of them but this kit is the same price or just a little more and seems a lot better. Also it comes with 11 3/4" rotors which is bigger than most of the other kits that will fit 15" wheels. Plus I think these would look a lot nicer between the wheels.

Sounds like you've already made your decision!

Looks like a nice kit but those guys are typically well known for drag racing brake systems - read 'lightweight'. Street and road course braking require different needs.

Where do you get rotors and pads from for a system like that?
 
No Shaun I havent made my decision thats why I asked. Theres just SO many brake kits out there and Ive been looking for one with the biggest rotor I can fit in my 15" magnums. Also, the kit looks pretty and when I put on some 18" shelby razors in a couple years I want some nice looking calipers in there. The KH kits just look so stock and am I right to say that these would perform better or no? Been looknig at wilwood, baer, and ssbc also. The aerospace site says they use hawk pads so they would be easy to find, not sure on the rotors. Also says its for a 3800# car and these cars are around 3200 so I cant see there being a prob or am I wrong? Im not looking for an all out track car just rreally want some good street performance with some "bling".
 
If you use the same dia. rotor on your 15" wheels as you do with 18" Razor wheels your stopping distances will very likely increase. The majority of the weight of the wheel will be further away from the hub center. Think of it like trying to stop a merry go round by standing at the center as opposed to standing on the outside edge. The further out the clamping force (caliper) is from the hub center point the better.
 
Well I need a kit sooner than I thought. Went to move the stang outa the garage today and noticed brake fluid on th efloormat. Looks like its leaking at the firewall where the rubber boot is. Do the KH kits dramatically improve braking? I know anything is better than what I have now but I want to at least match the performance of todays sports cars.

Which sports cars - some will flat give you whiplash (using ceramics, etc), and are likely not possible with our cars. That said, I've ridden in a '67 with Shauns' kit (don't know the exact one) installed. It will haul it down like my M5 will, so I'd say that is on par with todays iron.
 
I say get the big brake kit to match your 18" rims. Do a cheap patchwork job to get the current system working until you get your rims. It'll look goofy with large rims and small rotors, but thats my opinion
 
I agree buening but these rims and tires are brand new and after Im done the suspension and brakes, I wont have the $ for new rims and tires for some time.
 
You can always do what others, including myself, do and that is to park the car until you can afford the stuff we want.

I have owned my 65 for 20 years. At one point when my sons were in the real expensive phase I did not drive my Mustang for 3 years.
 
Is this a joke? I waited my whole life to get this car after owning 10 other mustangs so not driving it is NOT an option! I dont know how anyone could have a nice classic car and not drive it.
 
I would have to say Jersey gets pretty cold. No I dont drive it much during the winter just around a couple blocks but I couldnt go a couple years without driving it.
 
Ha! That's funny. I've got 40 grand in my '66 GT and it's been sitting over in my Mother-In-Laws
garage for the last few years- dam on the rocks Detroit auto career- I hope I get to drive it again before I die :rant

Time to take my meds again......
