AMP rating for 65 factory A/C needed

The standard fuse for the factory 65 A/C is 15 AMP. After blowing the fuse, I called Classic Auto Air (who restored my underdash unit). They tell me a 25 AMP is required. I did put in a 25 AMP, and it didn't blow. I'm worried because I have the factory harness (actually a Alloy Metal reproduction A/C harness). It seems crazy to use a 25 AMP without the appropriately sized wiring . The fuse is to protect the wiring, therefore the original 15 AMP was sized to protect the original wiring (14 AWG?).

I have a couple questions:
1/ With a factory A/C (with Sanden type compressor), is a 25 AMP really required??

2/ If yes, it sounds like I will need to run a new 12 (10?) gauge wire direct from the underdash unit to the added inline fuse to the accessory post on the key switch. This will bypass my A/C harness (for the 12V power anyway).

3/ If no, what AMP rating is right. I'm temped to try the 15 AMP again. If that fails, maybe up it to 20AMP.

When the first 15 AMP fuse blew, the squirrel cage fan on the passenger side of the underdash unit was rubbing. I recentered the cages, and the fans spun free again. I'm thinking that the riding condition caused the 15 AMP to blow.
Who is running what size fuses?

Remember, a fuse is designed to handle the initial high amp draw of the compressor starting, etc. Running it will draw far less. Put a meter on it and see what it draws when it first starts and then during normal operation. I'm sure it will be low enough that the standard wire gauge is sufficient. You could decide to change you fuse size based on your readings as well, if you were so inclined.

You might have been using a fast-blow fuse; you probably want to use a slow-blow fuse. That will handle transients better.

All right, you guys. Get your minds out of the gutter, will ya?
