Another confounded computer question

Where do I look to find what video driver I currently have? I have a Dell Inspiron 600m, Windoze XP Pro.

When I try to play a new DVD it says this:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."

It will play on our desktop, just not on my laptop. First time I've had this problem!

There are a few ways to check your video card driver but... select Control Panel from the Start menu, select System, select the Hardware tab, push the Device Manager, and you should see a list of the hardware installed. If you double click any item, it should open a window were you can see the driver version.

Easier way:
Right-click somewhere on the desktop, where there aren't any icons
Click "properties"
Click the "settings" tab at the top of the window
Click the "advanced" button at the bottom-right
Click the "adaptor" tab at the top of the new window

It should tell you that you have either an nVidia or ATI graphics adaptor. Figure out which, then go to the manufacturer's website and download the new updated driver pack. For a while now, both manufacturers have been using a single driver pack that includes drivers for all of their products, so you shouldn't have to do much as far figuring out exactly what adaptor you have.

Did this, when it went to install, it said the video driver was not there and then stopped the install.

Are you using the newest version of Windows media player WM11? Try using VLC player and see if it works.

Yep, windozes 11. Never heard of VLC player!

Holy crap...that VLC player is Da Bomb!! Everything plays better on it and now I can watch the previous unreadable DVDs.
