I'm finally back to work on the long, long dead 1969 project after the giant time-sink of all of the holidays. I am replacing both hard and soft lines, had the booster and proportioning valve rebuilt, new M/C, new calipers, etc.
So I replaced the lines left front and took off the caliper...and the wheel bearings sounded bad--and they are, probably from the sitting outside forever. The rotor has surface rust but isn't grooved and seems to be smooth otherwise, but I could tell by looking that it was pretty thin. So I hit the local parts store for the bearings and had them measure for me. I can't recall where the decimals go in the numbers he gave me, but he said that the rotor was so close that no one would likely turn it for me, although it is still within the limit. He suggested that I just polish it up and re-use it.
I looked thru NPD's catalog at dinner tonight and see replacement rotors for $199 a piece, of course with shipping and then there is the wait time. I was kind of wanting to get the one side buttoned up this weekend and at least start, if not finish the right front.
Am I being an idiot by re-using the rotors since they are so close to being too thin and can't be turned? Especially since I've already spent so much already on all of the other brake components? I just get so frustrated on getting 1/2 hour of work done, only to run into needing yet something else from NPD...and then hurrying up and waiting for parts, only to have them show up and then not get back to working on the car again for who-knows-how-long, since a bunch of other life crap will crop up and I won't get out to the garage again for another month...
