i know the mustang was essentially a reskinned falcon, but were there any changes in the falcon between 61 & 65? i've been toying with an idea... :eek. i can pick up two of these early 2 door cars, one with buckets, console etc. for less than $1K.

here's what i'm thinking: chopped w/s frame, remove the roof & build a tonneau like the early t-bird to make it a two seat roadster. just wondering if i remove the roof if any of the mustang vert chassis stiffening parts will work or would all of it have to be hand made. i'm thinking maybe subframe connectors, tubing to strengthen the full length of the rockers with crossbracing to tie to the frame connectors & maybe the mustang vert tunnel support. also probably a short 4 point cage that fits under the sheetmetal to also help with flex.

yeah, i come up with some weird, demented ideas, but throw in a v-8 , some suspension mods & set it all down low over some nice wide 17's in some mini tubs & it could be fun. i'm thinking that green that foose used on that "overhaulin" thunderbird (he cut the roof off of it too if i remember correctly) .....

Good ideas and they will work but the Mustang and Falcon have different floors and frames :rofl FRAME :dumas

I'll be glad to help, I am a Falcon guy at heart. My daily driver is a 64 Sprint and SWMBO drives a 61 Ranchero. We drive Mustangs on the track beacuse we don't want to wad up a Falcon.

I don't know the answer to your question but you know the Ronster Kit from MPlus comes with a chasis strenghtening kit:

I wonder if this is the kit they mean:

Only 350 plus shipping, it seems pretty reasonable for how much time it'd take to make that...but I'm not sure that's the same strengthening kit that they specifically make for chopping the roof off a ronster. You might call them and ask...if it's not, maybe ask if they sell the ronster strengthening kit without the crap you can't use.

Sounds like a sweet idea...I love falcons. I want my next one to be a falcon...probably when I'm 90. My idea is to make a REALLY bad falcon station wagon.

I wonder if the TCP subframes+Cross-Frame bar would be enough for chopping the roof off...My gut says "no".

Good luck!

thanks! will do on the hookup. here's one i had that was strictly a drag car about 20 yrs ago. would have made one helluva street car as it was a rust free kansas body with all the stock chrome, glass & sheetmetal still on the vehicle. as usual, wish i still had this one....

steve,

saw the ronster kit a while back when tarafied was discussing something similar with one of his junk bodies. that TCP kit looks like what i had pictured in my head to build, but with "outriggers" from the subframe connectors to braces along the rockers.

Cool photo, I bet that was a blast to drive.

A lot of the Falcon parts are the same as a Mustang but a few are different. The Falcon engine compartment is different than the Mustang but is the same from 60-65 for the Falcons. The Falcon steering changed a lot, twice a year sometimes.

Here is mine.
