Any suggestions?

Thinking about exhaust/headers for my project Coupe...

It's a 66 V8, PS with a drop bracket, T5 with a cable clutch. I'm guessing the reason some brands of headers say AT only is because of the Z bar?

Anybody have experience with the setup I have want to chime in with suggestions?

Thanks
Jack

+1 and loose the drop bracket.
Shorties without a drop bracket, huh? Is that what you guys are using? I DO like the "ball and socket" exhaust on my Fox...

On my '66, I have manual steering, but using a PS box. My '69 has a 408 (351w based) and Hooker Comps. No drop brackets needed.

My daughter's '67 does have the drop bracket, but we had it welded to the frame rail.

Unless you have the taller 351w, pretty much every long tube header will require the PS drop bracket. Lots of issues with this bracket in stock form. It will require some beefing up. Long tubes are definitely a headache, especially with a cable clutch. Be prepared to burn up come cables if you go the long tube route. Unless you have plans to go the stroker or larger CI route, I'd go with the shorty headers as everyone suggested.

Every once in a while I throw out my rant on long tube headers and I guess now is as good a time as any.....

IMO, long tube headers should not be used on a street driven car. The performance difference between long tube and short tube headers is not significant enough to warrant the use of long tubes and the usual headaches that come with them.

Agreed, 100%. When I built each of my cars, it was planned that they would see significant drag strip time, which is why both have long tubes. On a purely street driven car, there are SOOOO many less headaches, and not enough difference, if you go with shorties.

..... okay.... let me go into a little bit more detail.....

If you have glass windows, carpet and more than one seat in your car.... go with the shorties.

LOL

Classic Sanborn.

FWIW, you converted me - I started planning long tubes, but switched to shorties after reading your reasons.

Now, if I could be more sane about other things
