anybody have any opinions on these radiators?

I got a cheap bolt in AL radiator for my 65 seems OK. I have the stock 289.

This one has a lifetime warranty, so if it leaks or something, just get another one.

I can't remember the brand, but I like it better than my brass new OEM 3 row radiator in the 67.

That's exactly what I am running in my '70. It does have the over tube though. No problems - but no praise either. It's a radiator, just sitting there, keeping the car cool. No leaks or anything. Though it was a lot thicker - which jacked up my E-fan to water pump interference... I had to change E-fans.

Ah, I just remembered - we've already talked about this. LoL.

yeah, i had that one pretty high on the list too, but when the price dropped in half, thought i would ask about the other one. as J said, i already asked about his, but seems that there are about 3-4 different designs out there. i dont mind spending the extra, but in the long run if they are all about the same, might as well save some money.

one more question: would i be cooling more efficiently by getting one with the bottom connection on the drivers side & making a crossover pipe to the water pump??

I installed a Northern direct-fit aluminum radiator, along with a Flexalite fan/clutch in the D-coder yesterday and will offer the following impressions:

1. The radiator doesn't fit a 64.5 out of the box. The bottom tank hits the support crossmember. I had to drill new holes in the radiator flanges and raise the unit about 1/2".

2. The auto trans cooler holes don't match up to the stock locations. One, the one closest to the bottom tank hose outlet (this is a 'normal' radiator, with inlet and outlet on pax side) ended up precariously close to the fan blade after raising the radiator.

3. My observations reflect those of posters who prefer opposite side inlet and outlet. For a good long while the pax side of the radiator was hot to touch versus the driver side being cool.

4. The installation, once the specific problems were addressed, works perfect. The fan moves a ton of air (I retained the OEM, minimal, fan shroud) and freewheels as appropriate. The temp guage (OEM) stays at about 1/3 over, no matter how I load the engine or run it. I let it heat soak a few times and burped it; no issues. I'm running 25% coolant, distilled water (after a thorough flush with water and air) and water wetter.

Overall, I'd give this change a thumbs-up. No leaks, excellent performance (summer is yet to come, but I'm optimistic) and only a few installation issues.

I'm assuming from reading the thread there are places to buy the Northern unit for much less than the 299 I paid at Summit. It was part of a larger order, the shipping was free and I had it in two days. The fan, coming from TN, arrived as I was finishing the radiator install. Just in time delivery. No complaints.

# Core Size (in) approx: ALUM (16 x 23-1/8 x 2-1/8) - 3 Rows.

ROFLMA! Run away! This guy doesn't know what he's selling. I guarantee you it has 2, 1" cores. A 3" wide radiator would be so fat, and so heavy, it would defeat the purpose.

Now if you want to go on the assumption that it's really a 2-row, with 1" rows, it might not be bad. Personally, I've learned to just go with the Summit Racing radiators for a custom fit, or a Northern (see Street or Track) for a direct bolt in. I don't see whether this radiator is fully welded or it it's epoxied. The expensive Griffin radiators are epoxied and tend to start to leak after a couple of years.

after doing some research, the one i listed is a 3 row, but only 5/8" tubes, so actually less tube volume than a 2 row with 1" tubes. i think i'm gonna go with one from the seller in the ad horseplay listed. theirs are 2 row w/1" tubes & fully welded/no epoxy. this should do fine for now with the stock engine. i'm still running the original FoMoCo radiator, so it's only a matter of time before it poops out.

My 65 has the 2 row 1" tubes and I do like it. The stock radiator was over heating something terrible. The AL one looks better too.

John, I'm pretty certain that the dimensions given were that of the "core" area of the radiator. The core area is the overall radiator dimensional area minus the tank area.
