Anyone have their wheels widened?

I'm actually going to be able to get back to work on my car soon and since I am narrowing up the rear and adding a 4-link I need to get a new narrowed rear housing. To get all the measurements right and make sure I like the finished look, I want to get my rear wheels and tires on hand for mock-up. I really like the simple look of the Coys 55 wheel. Problem is they only come as wide as 9.5". I want at least a 10.5" in back to fit the widest tire I can with all the work I am doing.

Anybody have rims sectioned and widened? Everything I have been able to find on the web so far seems to indicate that if done right there are no issues. Any insight welcome.

I know it can be done, but to tell you the truth, I wouldn't trust a re-welded wheel. I would recommend getting a new set and selling the old ones on FleaBay.

I'd love to buy new and avoid the cost ($200+ per wheel) alone of modifying a couple wheels. Problem is no one makes what I like in the right sizes. If anybody knows of something similar to a Coy C-55 that I can get in 17 x 7" and 17 x 10.5" let me know. I haven't seen anyone with a 7" to match the 10.5".

I think the closest you will find to the Coy's C-55's in a 17x10.5 is going to be the Torq Thrust M or Shelby wheels. You could also check out the Shelby CS70 wheels. I recall them being pretty similar to the Coy's C-55's. I don't think they sell them in anything smaller than a 20 though. My last thought would be Foose Nitrous II wheels. I know you can get them in 17x10. Here they are.

Also, since they are Foose made, I'm willing to bet they could set you up with a 17x10.5 setup for your rears if you called them up.

Also might want to check out Coddington's wheels. Specifically the J5R. Again, they only make them in 17x10, but you may be able to custom make you a set.
