I finally got a chance to watch it, and holy freaking crap. I love scary movies and don't get scared easily, but wow. Definitely one of the best scary movies I've seen in a long time.

I watched the original version of the movie, sans Spielberg ending, and from what I hear, that's the way to watch it. I definitely recommend this movie to any of you scary movie junkies.
 
I watched the movie a couple of weeks ago and really liked it. I thought it was more suspensful than scary. I took my wife and she was incrediblly freaked out when it was over. I would recommend the movie to others.

I did not realize it was a remake. I'll need to locate the original.
 
It's not a remake, exactly. It was originally shown at an independent film festival, then Paramount picked it up, edited it down, and changed the ending.
 
I would like to see the original version. Did you catch it at a film festival? I bet Paramount stopped any duplication of the original version when they purchased the rights.
 
No, I uh..."procured" a digital copy;)

But yeah, I believe Paramount did exactly that. But when the new DVD comes out at the end of the month, it's supposed to have both versions.
