AOD/AODE speed sensor question.

I have this posted on numerous sites and have yet to get an answer, I hope someone here can shed some light on the subject.

I have a Rostra cruise control on my 68 and it was set up with a speed sender consisting of a magnet on the driveshaft with a solid mounted sensor.

I am converting to an electronic speedo and will be using the sender from the newerAOD series ECU transmissions.

The picture below shows the sensor with two leads for the speedometer.

Can anyone tell me if the sensor has the output for the cruise control, it seems that there is a socket beside the wired plug thay looks like a plug goes into it.

Any one here familiar with this set up?

what you are seeing is where a speedometer cable can be plugged into. I run both a standard cable to my speedo and use the speed sensor for the EFI input.

Thanks for the reply. I am using the sensor output to operate an Autometer electronic speedometer and need an output signal for my cruise control.
I need a signal from somewhere for the cruise control and thoght that I could get it from whatever went into that end of the sensor.

Can't you still use the drive shaft pickup? I am sure you could tap into the leads for the speedo, but no telling if it is the correct type of signal. Maybe someone makes a device that would plug into where the cable goes and turns the rotational action of the cable into a sensor. Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Thanks kb3, I am using the driveshaft pick up now but would like to clean up the whole set up with something like you mentioned.

I guess I'm from the old world but still need to ask if cruise control is that important to have for these old cars? I am running an AOD and Autometer electronic speedometer and would love to help but as you can guess, I do not have cruise control. Nevertheless, hopefully someone with such experience will chime in.

Have you tried asking Autometer?

I hear you about "old world" I'm 73 , and the cruise is important to me because I drive my car from Canada to a lot of MCA shows in the US. My car is set for long distance cruising with trips as far as Birmingham, Augusta, Ashville etc.
Autometer may help I'll call them. Thanks

My hat is off to you for I'm only 61. I just snooped around Autometer's web site and found nothing being obvious for your particular application, so a phone call or email to their tech support dept might be the way to go.

Would love to see pics of your 66.

Craig

Google the following text. Maybe something there might help.

Thanks Craig,
The car is a 68, and i seem to be getting closer to a solution for the problem.

Here is a shot from the MCA show at the Biltmore in Ashville.

Sorry to get off topic a little, but Craig's comment about age and cruise control made me chuckle a little. Ya see, when I bought my very first new car I was 25. I special ordered it because they weren't even on the show room floors yet. It was an '86 GT and I placed the order in Oct '85. When the salesman asked if I wanted cruise I told emphatically NO! My father had gone with me to the dealership. The salesman looked at him and said "HA! These young guys. They just don't appreciate having cruise control". My father replied to him that it was my money, my car ,my order!

Actually, I didn't want cruise from the factory because they replaced the nicer looking leather wrapped steering wheel with a cheap looking all plastic one. I intended to install the over the counter Ford unit which simply replaced the turn signal lever, though I never got around to it!
