Limits the travel of the rear end from the body of the car under extreme acceleration or cornering during racing.

According to Chuck Cantwell of Shelby American the cable was there to prevent over extending the rear Koni shocks. The shocks did not have an internal stop and would not last very long if their travel was not limited.
