Deb needed a vacation, neither one of us has been to Yellowstone and the Tetons. She also had to attend a two day conference at the Big Sky Resort South of Bozeman, Montana.
So....we packed up the Escape and left Sept 7th and made it home Sept 17th. We stayed at a cabin on the West side of the Tetons for a week. That was our base for exploring the mountains and Yellowstone. We did some hiking, ogling the views (which were stunning), ate at some good small town restaurants and saw quite a bit of wildlife.
Where we stayed in Driggs, Idaho. This is the West side of the Grand Tetons...pretty awesome backyard view IMHO.

My interpretation of Ansel Adams Teton picture from 1942!

Yellowstone Painted Pots
"Ear Pond"
Some "hot faucet"
Woke up to this when we headed out of Yellowstone to go to the Conference.
Yes, we DID make a fresh Huckleberry pie...and it was DELICIOUS!
Elk were like Iowa flies...everywhere.
The North entrance to Yellowstone.
Stopped at "Custer's Last Stand" on the way home. Deb had just finished reading a book about this!
Saw a buttload of Elk, Antelope, Bison and Ravens. A couple Brown Bears, Beavers and Bald Eagles. Heard two Moose calling, but didn't see any. There was one day when it was rainy and cold. We were driving through the mountain pass from Jackson to Driggs and on the side of the road (right at the edge) was a Racoon. It was soaked and just standing there...like it was contemplating suicide. It was pitiful, almost felt sorry for the little guy!
Beautiful country there and back. The Tetons were, uhhhh.... it's not possible to capture the beauty and grandeur with a camera, it must be experienced.
I am so grateful that I'm still here and was able to make the trip. It really was my last "official" bucket list item. My oncologist even told me it would be OK to drink ONE beer...and so I did.
