Bad battery?

I have a new Sears battery charger model number 71227 that is giving me a weird note on the display. I have been suspecting my battery is not holding a charge since I have to constantly charge it and this may confirm my suspicions. I plugged my charger on the battery and let it do its thing. About an hour later I went to check on it even though it turns off when the battery is fully charged. When I looked at the display it showed the letters "bad". My battery is an Optima red top from 2006ish. I really haven't used it that much since most of that time the car was under construction. I am tempted to go down and get another new battery but want to get your opinions first. Thanks for the help!

Not sure of that battery chargers functions. I would put a load tester on it or take it somewhere and get it tested.

I think she's dead ( the battery ) but to be sure , let her tested !! :roll :roll :roll

Thanks for the link to the optima site. I was talking about it with a guy at my local speed shop and he suggested the same thing that Optima's webside did. Hook another good battery to the optima battery via jumper cables and let it sit overnight. Then hook up the charger to the optima battery. The optima site has a slightly different approach that does not take as long so I will try it first. If I get the same result then I'll spend some money tomorrow and get a new battery.

I have had nothing but good results with the red top in the 66 and a blue top in the ski boat. I put them on a trickle charger every once in awhile. I've had the red top since 04 and the blue since 08.

I have heard some horror stories though, def take it and get it load tested!
