Baer Trackers too long.

After installing this bumpsteer kit, essentially an aluminum coupler and adjustable outer tie rod end, my steering linkage is now too long resulting in crazy toe in. I have it adjusted to the shortest length too. Anybody run across this problem? I hate to cut these down, but see no other real option.

I recently asked Tims65 about his and he said he cut his down to about the size of the original adjusters. He said he took the same amount from each end (though I have seen elsewhere on the net where guys have done 3/4 inner and1/4 outer) I think I'll take the same from each end. Unless someone like John (ORP) tells me otherwise. Cutting them down is a common occurrence on 65-66's. kip

I just cut a set for a customer. Take it all off the tie rod side, the threads go in way over half way. I took an inch off of the ones here.

John, I had seen your customers thread on vmf and another forum where you had cut 3/4" off and it still wasn't enough, but he didn't update further cutting. So I assume he had you take off another 1/4"? I think I like the idea of all from the inner end if for no other reason than not cutting the anodizing off both ends! kip

This one was for a different customer but the deal is the same, one inch removed from the inside.

The end that goes to the rod end has short threads, you don't want to cut any off that end.

So basically what everyone is saying is that they are not made correctly for the application? Is this because they are really a "one-size-fits-all" design for multiple years? Gotta say for a part that costs close to 2 bills that's pretty crappy.

One more task added to the to do list...

Why isn't this a problem for 67/68's ? or is it? I have same setup on Shag but I do not remember having this problem. Then again sometimes I forget my shoe is untied......

Better too long than too short...

Actually, they do fit what they are designed for most of the time. Problem is alot of us change to different year spindles, different length control arms, change track width etc.

I think Shaun might be on to something. I'm using the big bearing spindles from 1970, which I neglected to disclose earlier. This required me to get the Trackers for 1970(my car is s '65.) I'm going to contact Baer and see if they have shorter couplers. I'd rather replace with the correct part then cut, if possible. I'll report back.

On my 65 I have the stock spindles, with my Baer trackers adjusted as short as they go, I'm very nearly to the length of my stock setup but have no room for further adjustment. kip

Finally took these in to the machine shop to be shortened. They turned them down on a lathe, 1 inch removed from the inner tie rod side (as instructed.)
