Balancer spacer?

This is sort of a dorky question, but here goes! I used a specialty Harmonic Balancer on the '90 5.0 HO (not using the serpentine setup). It is not as thick as the original type balancer so I need to add a spacer to take up the difference so that I can torque down the balancer bolt to the required amount. (if I did this now, the pulleys would not be lined up at all) I've been driving around with it probably at 1/2 the correct amount. I did, however, use some blue locktite when I put it on. It's time I correct this...so does the spacer go between the Balancer and the timing cover? Do I torque down the balancer and bolt as it should be and then measure for the correct spacer? Then of course remove the balancer and put the spacer between it and the timing cover to "take up the slack"? Appreciate any wisdom on this issue.

The spacer would go between the balancer and the pulley. Loctite shouldn't be necessary. Make sure your bolts are long enough. . .

I tried several different balancers on my stroker. It uses a 50oz 5.0 balancer. The only one that fit properly was the professional products piece from summit.

I believe what you are saying is the balancer bolt bottoms out in the crank before the washer touches the crank snout. If this is the case, same issue I had. Tried 3 different ford parts. PP fit and torqued the fist attempt. No spacer, extra washers, etc. I had some spacers made to put between the balancer and crank with the keyway cut in them.
Never used them. You're welcome to them if you want to try them.

427w at 50oz balance... never heard of that. Who did your rotating assembly? Any reason why it was at 50 and not 28? Not questioning, just seems odd :dun

Thanks for the info.

No. Not quite. Let me try again. Kind of hard to put into words.

The crank bolt will pull the H.B. all the way in to seat it, so then it can be torqued to proper ft/lbs. The problem then is: The pulley mounted to the balancer will be way too far in (the balancer is thinner than the original 5.0 type) and will not line up with the alt/a.c./w.p belts anymore. I think I need a spacer to move the pulley farther out so the pulley sheaves will then line up for the belts. (not using a serpentine belt)

Hope I explained it better this time. Sometimes I feel like Jethro Bodine trying to naught naught some arithmetic.

It's a bit of an odd ball. Machined and built by PAW in the late 90s. Had my favorite machine shop freshen it up a couple years back.

Here's a little info:

Yes, I had to look it up on the scott drake website and they have several different varying dimensions. Next step is to measure for the correct one.
Thanks.
