Baseball with Hunter

My kids did a baseball camp with Hunter Pence this weekend. Made for a VERY long Saturday for me but they had a blast.

One of my twins is probably Hunter's biggest fan so had to share a picture of them together.

Hunter is a really good guy that seems to "get it" about being a good role model unlike so many of the punks out there playing these days.

Sounds like a great time. From everything I hear about Hunter he's the real deal, I love the old school way her wears his socks I can picture him in Orange and Black in a couple of year or at least he's on my want list.

Hunter said in the Q&A session on Saturday that he has 3 more years on his contract and wants to stay as long as the Stros will have him. He has a lot of friends / family in this area and they are starting a baseball facility so that he can get involved in youth baseball in the Houston area.

I thought it was cute...last Monday we were at Academy and the boys were buying a snow man tree ornament that had an Astros logo on it. They got the idea to buy one for Hunter. He seemed to think it was really cute that they bought him something and told me "you're raising them right if they thought of others..." Later about the time the picture above was taken I told him I hoped he had a tree to put it on. When I was a young single guy I never bothered to put up a tree but he said he put one up, LOL!

Great story with your son bringing Hunter ornament. Last year I attended a private signing of Willie May's new book and I had a friend of mine make up some Sey Hey Stickers with Willie Making his famous catch. They came out pretty decent and when I was getting my book and speaking with him I told him I had a present for him he seemed shocked and told me now this is really a change all the time people want things from me me autographs etc and you bring me a gift. I think he was truly surprised and pleased. Sometime we forget some of the these guys down deep are just really regular people like you and me and can be caught off gaurd my the littlest things.

The boys figured out Gerald Irons works in my building a while back so they had me stalking him with one of his cards from when he played on the Browns.

Finally caught him in the parking garage one day and he seemed really flattered that someone remembered and asked for an autograph.

Gerald is a super nice guy and has lived around here for years. When I was in high school one of his boys was a senior during my freshmen year and his middle boy was a year behind me.
