B67FSTB

The NorCal dude from Belgium
Sunday , I drove to the Ardennes ( 100mls) to visit Bastogne which played a major rol in
" the battle of the Bulge " or like we say " De slag om de Ardennen "
I drove to bastogne and visited the war museum and later on we drove around to find some memorials.
See the pics in my gallery.
You can enlarge them and read for yourself.
All I can say is : Thank you America !! We will never forget !!!

We are planning to hop the pond to Germany next year. My son is serving there and we are planning to go see him and tour a bit. My father fought in that battle. Although he never talked too much about it, he made the comment that it was a "all in" battle and everyone fought, cooks, anti-aircraft crews and anyone that could carry a rifle. Couldn't get the pictures to load BTW.

I did try to upload the pictures but I wasn't able to do it .I did contact SLUGGO.
I'll notify you where to see the pics.

EVERYTHING SHOULD WORK FINE NOW

Pics are working fine for me. There's a veteran of the 101st airborne that lives in the area I used to work in. He fought in Bastogne. I've had the honor of meeting him and have been there several times. He's a really great guy. Last time I was at his home his daughter had called saying he had gotten combative and was armed with a weapon. When I got there she didn't know that I'd met him before. She didn't want me to go into the home saying "he's got a pistol and he'll shoot you". I just ignored her and opened the door and called to him. He responded to me and I walked in and calmly talked to him....much to her surprise! He told me he didn't have his weapon with him, but he just told her that because she was harassing him. His daughter didn't live in the area and had just come into town to put him in an assisted living home. She just wanted us to have him committed so she didn't have to deal with him. She got a little upset when I told her there was no legal basis for us to do that and she would have to see a family court judge. I also added she probably wouldn't have any luck. She started popping off about what WE would and wouldn't do....which truly ticked me off. I told her he may be her father, but she obviously didn't know, understand or appreciate what the man had done for her and all of us. My supervisor then started talking to her as I walked off. One of my partners told me that my face was bright red. He said "I thought you were about to punch her in the face". I told him I REALLY wanted to...which is why I walked away! It's sad that his own family cares less about his service and sacrifices that he gave. He's getting on in age, obviously, and is a real treasure that will be lost once he passes.

I'm sorry for my little rant, and I know neither him nor any of his family will ever see this. But I'd like to publicly post it here: Mr. Al Brown, THANK YOU for your service!!!!

Maybe she doesn't know the whole story.
Just sent her those links so she can read about it .
Maybe this can help her to show more respect to that man.
He has seen things we would rather not seen in our entire life !!!! ( said correct )

Had the honor talking to Shifty Powers a couple of times (Band of Brothers). The pictures are working fine now.

i had friend who passed a few years ago who was one of "hogan's 400". he actually wrote a book a few years before he passed about his wartime experiences, but not for publishing, just a copy for each of his kids. he said he was tired of them always questioning "what did you do in the war", so wrote the book. after i became friends with him, he had one last copy of his book printed for me. i am the only non family member to have a copy & it is a GREAT read.

here's a link to the story of "hogan's 400":

Honestly, I don't believe she really cares. Based on some comments she made to me, as well as comments made by her father on one of my prior visits, she's tired of having to "care for him". She just wants him put away and to take control of his estate. The reason I placed the words "care for him" in quotes is because she lives clear across the country. She comes in several times a year to either try to coax him or force him into a home. Even his neighbors have made comments to me. They've also stated they hope to be able to get around as well as he does when they're his age! It's truly a shame.
