bendix power steering cylinder disassembly?

anybody take one apart? I got the snap ring, wiper retainer & seal, seal retainer and upper seal out but can't get the steel washer out...

If you’re considering rebuilding the power ram (also called a power cylinder), forget it. We’ve learned from John’s Mustangs & Classics that Bendix power steering rams are not rebuildable by the enthusiast. The most you can do with the ram is replace the seals, insert, and rubber wipers. The ram piston cannot be replaced because the ram housing is welded together. CJ Pony Parts has a new power ram if seals and wipers don’t correct leakage issues.

thanks but no, I found those too. They don't say or have a technique to remove the washer. I assume it's a pretty snug fit. I can't get it to budge, was hoping someone else tried and knew of a way to get it out.

I see on VMF you commented on the control valve adjustment. Do you know what that is? I replaced all the seals and bushings in that too. I adjusted the spring per the original manual. Is there more adjustments than the spring?

I just did the 68's ram seals, with it clamped in the vise and the shaft pushed fully inward.
I used a Ice pick drove into the seals and washer to remove them.
Got that idea from the service manual.
Using the pick at an angle and slightly tapping it around the shaft like your unscrewing it.
It helps to apply a slight backward pressure on the pick to the face of the cyl as you go around to move it outward.

As for the control valve, the only adjustment I made was to the inner crown headed nut to get the pin to go in so the slots end face were flush with the rollpin.
The other was the nut under the caps preload adjustment.
It works great and no leaks.
