Best place to buy wheels and possibly tires too?

And by best I mean cheapest.

I know exactly what I want, in fact I have known for almost 4 years, the problem remains who am I going to buy them from now?

I want the American Racing 17" Billet Magnum VN500's. I originally put together an order with the best internet price I could find which at the time was from www.performanceplustire.com, this was around 2007 I think. Custom shop order with tires came to like $1600 delivered. I then went with the quote to my local Townfire tire and they agreed to match it, actually with all their service thrown in and lugs etc it was $1649 but I felt better about buying local and having somewhere to go with probelms. I placed the order paid in full and waited, custom orders take 6-8 weeks. 4 months later I finally found out they have delayed the wheel indefinitely so my money was refunded. About a year ago I found out from AR that they finally released it to the public but naturally Townfair wants a more current order to price match against. PPT pulled the wheel from their website when it got delayed and never brought it back. I currently have an inquiry in to them, we'll see what happens.

So anyone got a secret place with a real sharp pencil that I can price these out at? I've looked around some and they are all around $2000 for the wheels and another $500 for the tires, basically an extra grand over what I planned on annd some plus shipping too.

I found one new to me guy online http://mrwheeldeal.com and he almost sounds too good to be true so wondering if anyone has any experience with them? What I want exactly is:

(2) 17x8 with 4.5"bs and 245/45-17 tires
(2) 17x9.5 with 6"bs and 275/40-17 tires

Both in the 5x4.5 lug pattern obviously. The tires I have been looking at are the Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105 mainly based on the directional tred pattern but most importantly the sidewall design or lack there of. I am having custom redlines done and need a certain amount of blank space so I am open tire wise if they meet my needs. The wheels are not really optional unless somehow someone knows how to get the Wheel Vintique version for a 75% discount or they know of a simillar looking mystery rim that I am unaware of.

OK there ya go, work some of that Stangfix magix and fix my problem people, I await your collective wisdom!

When I ordered by Budnik wheels, I went to the website and found the list of dealers, found their websites and contact e-mails, I sent an e-mail quote request to like five speed shops, they could all see who else was copied on the e-mail. I got four replies with quotes, went with Curt's Rod and Custom in MN, his prices were the cheapest when I added everything up with shipping. Worked pretty well for me.

Fast68back, that is pretty much how I started 3 years ago. The AR site only shows dealers by zipcode, I visitied all of them back then and they were all in the same (high) price range. I had gotten some better prices in fact from places not on the list that had access to sell them but weren't A list dealers. That's why my strategy now is still to find the best internet site and then possibly use that to get them local still via price match or just buy from the best internet place directly.

Shaun, They are making them and for some time now, I have that confirmed already by them directly and several dealers that have called to verify. As I mentioned, the Wheel Vintiques are way out of my price range, I started dreaimng of those like 5 years ago and was siked when the more affordable AR was announced, that's why I have been holding out for the last 3 years with my car on jackstands the whole time no less. I thought it was a done deal last time I ordered and started the 13" Cobra disc brake install.

Well, so far Mr Wheel Deal is true to his word, he got back to me in 2 hours and seems very competitive. His prices were right in line pretty much with my best price from 3 years ago, wthout a free shipping offer he's just over at a total of $1800 for the package. Here's the info I got from him, I may just give him a try unless someone jumps in with a horror story warning. I think Paypal is supposed to be pretty fool proof for these types of transactions, aren't they?

Richard,

Thanks for checking with me on these wheels. I just verified that they ARE currently available in your fitment (ready to be custom built, takes 3-4 weeks), and I can get them to you for only $1239. To complete the set, we have (2)275/40/17 and (2)245/45/17 Hankook Ventus H105 tires for an additional $439. This includes FREE mounting and balancing, so they'll arrive at your door ready to bolt on and go.

Shipping typically takes 3-7 business days, and will be $138 for the full package, or $69 for the wheels without tires.

I've personally served thousands of customers over the last five years (our PayPal account shows over 6,000 successful transactions), and appreciate the chance to earn your business. Please let me know if you're interested in moving forward, or if there is anything else I can do for you.

Thank you,
-Steve (Mr. Wheel Deal)

So either no one on here has bought wheels in a really long time or everyone over pays? That's amazing. I thought for sure everyone would claim their guy is the best and can't be beat and I would have more leads than I knew what to do with. Maybe the info is just hiding behind this huge wall of tumbleweeds and I can't see it?
:wm?

Not real sure what more you would expect. You know exactly what you want and who makes it. You already found a guy who you say can give you a good deal. What more do you need? If you're suspicious of this vendor, go to one you trust...but be willing to pay a bit more for the security. Local brick and mortar stores do typically instill a bit more confidence as you (and they) know you can always come back if there is a problem. They, however, typically have larger overhead to support themselves than a guy like you found who typically orders from his supplier and has the item drop shipped to you. If they didn't charge a bit more they couldn't exist.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I checked with another guy at the warehouse, they do make it you are correct. That is a pretty good price he quoted you. Not much higher than my buy price...
