Best way to clean windows

I can not clean the windshield of my cars to save my life. They will look clean but then I will be driving at night the windshield just looks cloudy. At a stop light I will then take a micro fiber cloth and wipe down the areas I can reach.

I know what you are thinking and no I don't need turn on my defroster.

So what is the trick to cleaning windows?

Inside or outside?
Have you recently changed the foam or redone your interior?
I had the same problem and came to find out the new foam I rebuilt my seats with were "outgassing". I guess the chemicals that are used to help produce or protect the foam leeches out especially when it's warm outside.
For me, it was like an fine oil on my window. I did what you are doing and kept cleaning it and eventually it reduced and then stopped. Can't remember how long it took though...

It is on the inside of the windows. The out gassing makes sense for our newer car (2011) but the other is a 2003. I guess I will continue to clean.

A leaking heater core will make the inside of the windshield almost impossible to clean due to the heat, solvents and alcohol content of the coolant.

And it doesn't take much of a leak to mess them up. Also try adding a few tablespoons of white vinegar to half a bottle of windex and you might try using wadded up newspaper to clean the window with. This is what we used at a dealership in the 70's.

I've had the best luck using Sprayway Glass Cleaner. It's available at Costco.

When I had my windows replaced the glass shop gave me a can of 3M aerosol glass cleaner. They said it was the best glass cleaner they have found. It seems to work good.
