Wow, it's rare we see this much snow here in the South. We were at my parents house for dinner when it started coming down, but thankfully my wife's car has AWD so the drive home was no problem. Plenty of other cars on the road were either stuck or unable to make it up even the smallest hills. Probably 3-4 inches now, but the radar shows plenty more coming. Guess I'll make a snowman tomorrow with my daughter. I'm glad I'm off work for a few days.

I'm at Nashville airport now waiting to see if my flight is cancelled. We got an inch or two and still coming down.

Yep....looks crappy for sure.

I wonder how we survived the winters in Iowa as I grew up in the 50's and 60's.... No 4x4 of any type, no front wheel drive, no closing down if it looked like snow. I remember my parents taking us to school if the bus could not get to our farm. We always carried sand bags in the trunk or bed of the vehicle. We would get the tractor out if it was real bad......cars buried completely....but the tractors were the workhorse/moneymaker so they were treated well and not abused. A snow day in school meant you could not see thru the blowing snow if you got 10 feet from someone. If it was not currently snowing....school was in session.

No, it was not uphill both ways either......Just seems like for all the great advancements we have made ion life, snow can shut it down faster than ever.

Hope it melts fast for you that got hit.

Some towns over in the northeast side of the state got up to 10 inches of snow. We only got 5. People in MS don't know how to act right now.

We got between 3-6 inches here, and 15 in Greenville, SC where mom lives.

Word has it the only loaf of bread still for sale is going for $296

Wow, what a mess. I was just watching some of the coverage on CNN. Semis stuck up on the highways.
You southern states are not equipped for this stuff.

We got 12+ inches here a few weeks ago and that was barely enough for schools to close. Most retail centers stayed open. Just normal life for us up here in WI.

We've got some but nothing major. Seems like we're right above the line for this one. Hope the ice doesn't hit tonight. Looks like the southern ones are taking a beating. Stay safe guys. FTR, I am not feeling sorry for the Auburn fans who can't fly out of AL for the game........LMAO!!!!!!!

Well, at least it will save them that long, sad flight back home.

Went out this morning and plowed the drive out to the road. 5" of snow since last night and they say maybe a few more yet this afternoon......Deb's gonna be really mad if her flight out of Manhappy gets cancelled tomorrow!

I had to drive to Johnstown, PA from Panama City, leaving Sunday morning. I knew about the storm, and based upon projections, Charlotte, NC appeared not to get snow until mid-morning on Monday (according to the forecasts). While driving north through Atlanta to Statesville, NC (about 25 miles north of Charlotte), there wasn't a bit of snow, rain, or sleet and the roads were very dry. My plan for out-running the storm seemed to succeed.

This morning, I awoke at 5AM and saw about 1/4" of snow out on the parking lot...uh oh! About 1.5 hours later, I was all packed and ready to get back out on the road. The tires on the '06 are not all-season, but are directional tires designed for maximum wet and dry traction (but no snow traction). I slowly pulled out of the parking lot, and tried to go up-hill on a very gentle grade. The car fish-tailed like crazy, but I did manage to get to a gas station to fill up. Fortunately, it was next to a Starbucks, so I loaded the thermos bottle with high-test. I then managed to go onto a clover-leaf onto I-77N, and tried to stay in previous tracks of other cars. I started out doing 35 mph, and managed to get up to 45 mph without problems. 30 miles down the freeway, the highway was free of snow and was dry. I went 70 mph the rest of the way up to Johnstown.

Damn weather forecasters...if they had said snow about 60 miles north of Charlotte, I would have spent the extra time driving the distance on Sunday to avoid the snow. I thought I had a safe margin as it was...

At least my car drives and is able to pass PT Cruisers.

A few pics of my daughter Taylor playing in the snow today. She had a blast! I was able to shovel the driveway too. I don't own a snow shovel, so I used an extra piece of beadboard that I had. Worked great!

She's 2.5 and healthy as an ox. Just after her 1st birthday she had ITP, a temporary blood condition where her body destroyed her platelets. She spent a week in the hospital, but fully recovered. No issues since.
