Bought new TV

I finally pulled the trigger on a LG 47" LED Smart 3D. Man is it nice. It will be even better when I get my HD digital DVR box Monday. I can keep an eye on what's going on here and still not miss a moment of any show or sporting event. I still am learning what all I can do with this unit but I am enjoying the heck out of it already. Why does it take me so long to make these modern changes? Oh that's right, I'm an old fart. :yah

We just got a new TV yesterday. Vizio 60" LED HDTV. Pretty neat with the wifi. Watching YouTube videos on the big screen is neat.

I like the wifi but I might spring for a cable to go hard wire for faster loading. I will have to try the youtube.

Last Christmas my kids got us a Logitech Harmony 900 remote control to replace the 5 remotes we had to deal with all the boxes. It required on line programming (something for the kids to do Christmas eve!) but has the capability to control all the necessary devices to allow specific viewing with the press of a single button. For example, if I want to watch TV using the cable box I press the "Watch TV" button once. The remote turns on the TV, makes sure that the input on the TV is the correct one for the cable box, and turns on the cable box. The Volume on the remote controls the TV volume and the channel selection on the remote controls the cable box, no jockeying between remotes. Likewise, if I want to watch a Blue Ray disc, I press "Watch Blue Ray: and the remote turns on the TV, makes sure that the correct HDMI input is selected, turns on the Blue Ray player, and turns on the Surround sound system and selects the Blue Ray input. The remote can even be programmed to control the ceiling fan!!!

That's right, one remote and it works well enough that even my wife, who is somewhat remote averse, is happy. Take a look at it, I know I am impressed!!

I've had remotes that could operate everything for years. Can even fetch food and beverages, if needed. Thing is they keep getting older and moving out! Never had much luck getting the WIFE model to work, though.

Glad to see I'm not the only who didn't have an hd tv. We finally upgraded last march. Only because our old tv died. The built in WiFi is nice. We can load apps and it even searches eBay. Lots of interesting stuff. Of course I still have rabbit ears and a vcr hooked up to it. Haven't upgraded any of our other components yet. We have dish, but our box is over 12 years old so no hd hook up or channels.

Last week one of my employees was on the price is right and won a car, so I taped it for my staff to see. I brought in the tape and they all looked at me funny and said we don't vcrs. Am I the only one who still uses one?

The only one since 2001. Come on, man!

An HDTV NOT hooked up to HD is like having a vintage mustang with a 2 stroke lawn mower engine under the hood.

Come on man, get with the new technology!

We're now on our second Harmony remote - wore the first one out. They are awesome....

The cable company hooked up the digital dvr and modem/router today. Man what a difference. My internet is now at 30 and 5. Super fast compared to the 15. Now to figure out how to use everything. They did program the remote to operate the tv and the dvr box. I can program their remote to operate other devices as I get them.
