Brocken rocker stud

Bad luck continues...Get one problem fixed and another one pops up. This new motor is gonna make my hair fall out. Less than 75 miles on it and we replaced the thermostat, carb, coil and now......a rocker stud broke. WTF? I think my car is cursed. Any idea about what could cause this, or could it simply have been a bad stud to begin with?

New studs? ARP?? if old ones it could of had a weak point. I have ARP studs in mine and the threads are all galled up on the one where the poly lock broke/came off.

Sorry about your misfortune.

Yes they are new studs, but I would guess they are whatever the Edelbrock heads came with? I am gonna talk to the engine builder tomorrow.

If they are ARP it will be stamped on the top of the stud. You'd have to remove another poly lock.

I've been hearing that pre-assembled heads (E-brock for one) come with cheap/crappy hardware...guess they ain't lying.

I cannot dissagree. The shop that built it is sending a new stud and rocker so hopefully the other studs are in good shape. I asked if the studs came with the head and he said they did.

For less than $100, I'd replace them all with ARP studs.

When I put Edelbrocks on the race car back in '95, I replaced all the removable hardware (studs, guide plates, retainers, locks, springs) with stuff I had experience with and which had provided me good service life. That meant ARP, SVO and Iskendarian components. I took a chance with the valves but they worked out OK and have about 300 runs on them. No service issues.

Does that valve stem tip look mangled or is just a visual anomaly?
