Broken Bolts

So me and my father tried to get the bolts out of the engine block that I broke off that hold the Oil pan on. We tried using the backwards drill bit and the EZ out, and we couldn't get it out. We drilled right into the middle of the Bolt the best we could. And We couldn't get it backed out. I believe they are broke off at an angle. So..... its sort of impossible at the moment to get them out. Any ideas???

the last two are the first one we tried and we couldnt get it out no matter what we did. and one of the bolts my dad tried to get out he drilled to the side of it and he thinks he messed up the whole. Tap and Die?

Thought my eyes were gone.......impossible to see anything in those pics.

If easy outs don't do it, the next thing is maybe drill them out and re-tap to a larger size or helicoil them. Getting the new in straight is important.

Sorry Pete, I snapped the pictures, couldn't really tell anything myself. But I couldn't get any better ones if i tried So i figured Id give what I had to try to give you some sort of look at the broken bolts. Trying to keep that whole if you didn't see it it didn't happen type thing out.

basicly you drill out the bad bolt / threads to a larger size. Tap it for a larger size, install an insert that will except the original size bolt.

You might consider having a machinist help you out with this one. You really only get one shot at it. If you do insist on doing it yourself, drill in steps. If you centered your first attempt well, follow-up the depth of the bolt with a drill just smaller than the narrowest part of the offending bolt. I've been able to "crack" the remnant of the bolt and break it free in some cases without having to resort to a Heli-Coil. The key to anything you do is to keep the work centered.
