cam reccomendations for 351C

I want a cam that will give me good low end power I am not going to rev this motor past 5.5k, motor is 351C, stroked to 408, I want to keep the auto tranny. I'm too old to keep clutching. rear gears will be somewhere around 3:80.

I think a 3.80 rear end gear ratio is too small for a 3 speed automatic or do you have an AOD trans ?? :confu :confu

Just a normal C4, I can put in any gear I want, I have not decided yet. I just want a good streetable car with some bottom end. The car will be used for cruising occasionally.

If you want to make big power....I have a custom ed curtis cam and lifter set brand new sitting in a box that I had him spec up for my 410 and I never got around to installing it....it would make alot of power for you...but would also peak out quite a bit higher than 5.5

If it won't wipe out my bottom end I might be interested, I just want low end grunt, not concerned with high revs

I seriously doubt it would. However....it was speced to meet me needs/setup which included a 3k stall, 4.11 gear, 4v heads, long tube headers, strip dommy intake, etc....so it might not match up to what you really want.

This is very similar to the cam in my Windsor. I doubt it will disappoint.

3.80s and a c4 would be pretty good for cruising around town but I don't think you'd like it much on the highway.

You'll likely see 4k + rpms at 60-65 mph. I don't recall exactly what it was in my 71 with a c6 and 3.88s but it do remember it sucked on the highway.

An AOD with a wide-ratio gear set would work well with 3.80's. It would be close to a wide-ratio toploader with 3.91's in first and cruise in OD like you had a 2.66 rear gear.

If that isn't in the cards, I personally would probably think about a 3.00 or 3.25 rear gear and get a cam and torque converter to match.

2v heads? 4v, aftermarket? Compression ratio? That will affect cam choice too.

Might pose this question on the 351c forum and get some advice from much more experienced Cleveland guys than me:

Heck, a stock 351 cam in a 408 in front of 3.88 gears in a 3000# car is going to have plenty of bottom end grunt.

3.25 or 3.55 with the cam sluggo posted would be a more rounded combo IMO. Given your 408 cubes, it should be plenty of fun to drive.

FWIW, I running a 3.00 trak-lok, a world class T-5 and a Windsor stretched to 427 and I like the combo a lot. Not sure I would consider a gear change. If I did I don't think I'd go beyond 3.55. Current config runs 1875 rpm @70mph.
