Car shows Under Construction class?

It's exactly what it says, a car that's not finished. It wouldn't be judged, it would be a popular vote.

So anyone with a project car that is unfinished could participate in that class? Hmm... I think my ugly pony needs to go some car shows then. :lol How the heck does someone vote on unfinished projects?

The whole car show scene is new to me, but looks like fun even if nothing is won. I more or less just want to take my mustang and look at others for inspiration. :vic

Popular vote is hard to second guess. Some like it if you are headed towards original, others like the modified arena. Also, they will look at the quality of the work done and progress. It is more or less what that particular crowd likes out of the presented projects. You will also see some that appear complete as there are not many guidelines as to when a car moves into the normal show classes. A lpt of shows don't run a project/builder class so ask those in charge if they have one, if not....say they just got their first entry for the new class.

In addition to what everyone else has said, there are always those trophy hungry idiots that will leave a door handle off an otherwise completed car, so they can have the nicest "work in progress" car and walk away with an easy trophy. I've always thought those people were scum, but there's not a thing you can do about it.

That's why you just go for the social aspect and have fun. If you end up with a trophy, it's just an added bonus.

Seriously? :wtf That is just...pathetic.

Yep. That is just another area of shows that the trophy hungry individuals step on everyone.

When I was in Az., I did a lot with motorcycles. We had one guy that only entered his bike after most all were signed up, just before judging. Based on the number and type of entries, he could remove or add saddle bags, windshield, and other minor items to "fit" into a lesser attended class and just about win every time. After seeing that for several shows, the locals started placing the bikes in the correct status and slow down his thing.

As said, go for the fun and if they call you up, you will be surprised. We go to all the shows we can here to talk with those who come out to see the cars. It seems like many here attend to get a trophy or sit and eat with club members, totally disregarding the general public that comes out. I see club members all the time....much more fun to discuss the car with those who want to know more or share odd stories about their cars of yesteryear. I could not begin to count how many women have told more than I need to know about the back seat of Mustangs in their past. All fun and something to laugh at.

The first show that Trouble attended, the car was painted and the engine was in. It wasn't running, however, and the hood wasn't on it. I took it in on my old flatbed trailer, which was painted to match the car btw, and put it on display. Opposite it on another trailer was a 65 convertible in progress. We actually got a large share of the attention at the show. We each received a trophy for "Display." The next show, in Albuquerque, the engine could run but I couldn't drive the car due to no exhaust. Hauled it up in my enclosed trailer and when I fired it up in place a mass of guys came running over. It took first place in the in-progress category. And, then I had loads of help pushing it back into the trailer at the end of the day.

I generally go to the big car shows and enter only because it's cheaper (most of the time) to enter than to be a spectator. I like the little town cruise-in's and car shows but as most have stated, the trophy part is who ya know or what club your in or some politics. Just go to have fun and if you win something that's great.
