Carb/Choke question

Is this the proper gap ( or close to it ) on the choke when engine cold ?? I really need to pump the pedal more than I think I should to get the ole girl to fire up the first time.

The gap on both of my cars is probably half if not less than that compared to yours.

It is a bit wide. Check to see if you are getting fuel on the very first pump. If not....carb issues. If you are getting good shots of fuel, look into other tuning issues because the car should start with one pump to set the choke and fuel the engine. Also check the high idle setting.

Yes..getting fuel on first pump. I checked that first. It is a new carb. and has been working fine just wasn't sure if I had it too open or not. Would it being too open allow for more evaporation of gas and harder starting time possibly ?? :dun

That opening would have nothing to do with evaporation. The high idle should be around 1200 rpm if my memory is any good.

If it is getting fuel on the first pump and the choke is setting at least to where your pic showed, it should fire right away. If it is not starting without more pumping, you need to look at other things. Did you look down the carb as the throttle was pumped to watch the fuel flow....engine off and watch your eyes for splash.

Yep..looked down in the carb. and each pump shot a good stream of gas into the carb. Timing issue maybe ?? Too much advance ??

From my experience....engine spins fast with hard start....to much advance....engine turns sluggish with hard start....to much retarded.
