ok, need a couple ideas here if anyone has any experience with the holley 4160 with the non adjustable float carbs like this one:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-0-80457s

i can crank the car up, no problem. let it sit & run until it warms up & the choke kicks off, no problem. i can rev it up & it drops back to idle, again, no problem. i can drive the car around the block & it runs great, but when i stop, it wont idle , stumbles & quits. i pulled the shaker & air cleaner assy & gas is flooding out of the secondaries, mainly the left (drivers side) & continues for a min after the car is off. this is my first "newfangled" holley without the adjustable needle & seat & no sight plug. any ideas?

I'd offer you a spare carb but I gave both my holley 600's to Craig to use for the drag car. I had rebuilt one of them. Are you running a mech. FP? Is the carb mounted filter in there? How fresh is the gas, did it have the evil 'E' word in it?
From Holley website:
Floods
1. Incorrect fuel pressure
2. Trash in the needle and seat
3. No or dirty fuel filter

Hesitation, Sag, Stumble
1. Fuel contamination/ Old Gas

1. Defective accelerator pump
2. Secondaries opening too soon
3. Float or needle and seat sticking
4. Incorrect or plugged main jets

You know there right in Bowling Green if you'd like to make a front door visit..otherwise I'd call their tech line. Holley

Edit: Ok I tried twice and it keeps dumping the cut/paste i'm doing from Holley website. There is tech line number and an online question form.

here's the lowdown:

stock fuel pump,
gas is fresh93 octane premium
glass, see thru fuel filter that's clean
no filter on carb, removed all that a couple yrs ago & installed a banjo fitting for front entry instead of side.

the manual that came with this thing burned up & everything online is generic old style. just not sure what the inner workings are on these "non adjustable" types. It acts like a float is sunk, but not until its driven. I didn't get a chance to take it back to the shop last week. pop had another episode & that put me behind a couple days. thought if someone had an idea for a quick fix, I wouldn't bother taking it back up there. & just fix it here.

I can't help with the carb, but I just wanted to say I hope your Dad is feeling better.

thanks! still a day to day battle with his health. good one day, bad the next...

took the rear bowl & metering plate off the carb mon. & cleaned it real good. had to wait for a new gasket. seems the "new & improved" blue tearproof gaskets do tear & aren't able to be reused. got it reassembled & went for a quick test drive & no flooding yet, just need to reset the idle....

do have an annoying rear brake squeak. its on the right rear & squeeks at one point on each rotation of the wheel. loud as hell & annoying. I've figured out the "what & where", just not yet figured out the "why" or what to do to fix it.

A good bit of grease on the rear brake pads should fix that squeak... :steer
