Carburetor Question

My 67 pony has the Autolite 2100 2V; I'm having the problem that when the car has set for some time, say a week that when I try and start it I have to spend 3-4 minutes cold cranking before it will finally catch. After that it will run like a champ; is the problem the float being too high or is there a problem with the accelerator pump?

thanks,
Bruce

Could it just be that gas is flowing back from carb. Unless you have electric fuel pump, you have to crank the mechanical fuel pump.

If you don't want to wait for the fuel to refill the bowls after sitting for extended times, get a small squeeze bottle, fill with fresh gas and then fill the carb through the vent tubes.

My cars sit a lot. I drive them when I can but some of them sit for months. By then, most if not all of the fuel has left the carb. but it doesn't take 3-4 minutes of cranking to fill a float bowl. Our 65 wagon can sit for 4 months and it'll fire up after about 20-30sec. of cold crank. If it took over that, I would look at fuel delivery issues like a weak fuel pump or clogged lines. You have some fuel delivery problems if it takes 3 min. to get gas to the carb.

Blow out the line from the pump to the tank and the line from the pump to the carb. Put in a new pump and a new fuel filter.
