Cat haters rejoice! (sad story)

the cat haters will enjoy this story,
we had a cat that gave birth to 3 premature kittens in July. I'm guessing a just a few weeks premature but obviously preemies, anyway, one died within a few hours (the black and white one), a second hung on for a day and half (orange and white)... the third looked like it might make it... until... My 13 year old son really liked the cat and held it a lot. The mother for some unknown reason brought it into my son's room at night and got into his bed with it. Sometime during the night, he must have rolled over onto it and it must have suffocated. Or the mother knew it was going to die, I don't really know for sure but my son woke at about 4am realizing the kitten was in his bed, dead. He sat up the rest of the morning until we woke up, too upset to go back to sleep and worried we would be upset with him.
So 3 less cats in the world. :cry

Why would you post the title like that about such a sad story?
because cat haters would be happy, bad attempt at humor I guess.

That sucks Craig. Hope your boy is getting past it.
me too, we just don't talk about it yet.
The mom cat was only 7 months old when she got pregnant. I didn't know she was old enough. We are keeping her inside until we can have her "fixed" which will be soon now that she is not feeding kittens anymore. I think my wife made an appointment for next week. The mom is still looking for her kittens. She doesn't seam to realize what happened. I personally didn't want or need anymore cats but I hate that it happened that way.

I too dislike cats, however for your sons sake that really is sad, its a hard lesson learning about life and death obviously at a young age but its better now then later

That's really terrible that your son has to go through this.

...are our cats related? Mine is also small, white, borderline brain dead, and the world's worst mother. Almost ran over her kitten yesterday because it was perched on top of one of my front tires. :lol

We had a car come in the svc. center I used to work at complaining of a dying battery and pwr steering issues. Pop the hood to check the serp. belt and something is caught in the belt at the bottom of the engine. Raise car, inspect closely, find parts of kittens mangled up in the belt. We had to take a knife and slice the belt. There was A LOT of mess that fell to the floor. I talked to the owner of the car not knowing how to handle the situation (maybe his kittens) and he was ecstatic! It was his neighbors cat that had kittens and he was none too happy about 'em running around his house.

:lol that sucks, I've watched another mechanic at my old workshop remove a dead rat lodged in the chasis rails had to brake its pelvis to free it without breaking the skin. I have had to remove parts from a car that ran over a 6ft kangaroo the underside of the car was just covered in fur :eek

thanks for the support guys, I don't know why I felt compelled to share this but my son was hurting emotionally. We of course let him know he couldn't have done anything different. I think it's better that they didn't survive if something was wrong with them but yes it's a hard life lesson. We have always had pets, even dogs. The boys were too young to know or remember when the dog past away but the cats have become like family members. The father (grandad) is "Rat Rod" of two sisters we had from a litter. Then someone gave us a black cat (male) so we have 4. These two sisters have been my son's cats so to speak, so when one of them had kittens my son felt like a grandpa himself. He will be okay but he doesn't like to talk about it yet. We had advertised the siblings of the two sisters when they were very young and someone wanted the mother also so we gave her and her other 4 (she had 6) away. My son was upset about that but we couldn't keep them all. So he has been raising the two sisters. He is very protective of them. My wife has tried to give them away but he won't let her. We would prefer to only have Rat Rod and the black cat (Bob) since they are outside cats mostly. Anyway, I guess I needed to talk about it so thanks for letting me ramble on the keyboard.

Dang Craig, that's a sad story even for a cold hearted ba$tard like me.

Not too fond of the little fur balls but this story is really sad, this is the one time I would say the :WOP rule does not apply.

I really hope your son understands that it wasn't his fault and can move past this smoothly. I guess it is as real as it gets when it comes to learning the lesson of life and death, hope he is doing okay Craig.
