This past weekend, I participated in celebrating the 80th Birthday of my Mother-In-Law. Back in January, My FIL, my wife her sister and brother all started preparing. My FIL had told them this was going to be BIG. BIG may not accurately describe it. Read on.
They reserved a hall (Embassy Suites in Glendale), made up the invitations, secured a DJ, secured a photographer, made up trivia contest questons, table place settings, etc. Out of nearly 150 people invited, 129 came. All of the tables at the party had #s - the year of a significant event in my MIL's life (example: Table 1962 - when my wife was born). My sister-in-law made a video slideshow (to music) of events, and pictures of the families' events to date.
My brother in law spoke of his parents and the times he went through as his parents raised him. And the values they instilled in him. He attributed the success of raising his two daughters to the values instilled in him by his mother and father.
A family friend who was a Catholic Priest travelled from Hawaii to be at this event. He got up and spoke about the times he and another Catholic Priest spent at my in-law's house, singing and drinking around the piano with my MIL and FIL. He presented her a necklace with a tiny gold Bible on it and inside the Bible was inscribed the Lord's Prayer (by the way, these two Priests, and a third, married my wife and I).
All of my wife's cousins here in the states, all of my In-Law's grandchildren and many longtime family friends were present.
It was a great time and a wonderful way to stop and celebrate family and friends at a pinnacle birthday party.
I am truly blessed to be part of my wife's family- this event was clearly one of those blessings.
I'll edit this and add a picture shortly.
