Central Bushing removal

Has anyone ever removed a central Bushing without a bushing removal tool?

Any tips? I'm thinking I could either tap it or weld something onto it???

Are you referring to the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft?

Refer to your handy Ford shop manual for the removal trick....

... it involves injecting grease through to the backside of the bearing to force the bearing out. Pretty neat trick.

You could also use a slide hammer with very small claws....

Yea Dave,
I am referring to the pilot bushing.

I have a sliding hammer but the claws are too big......

I'll try the grease trick....Cheers.

I used the grease trick to remove both the solid bushing and a roller bushing, worked great both times. Wrap a rag around the pipe and bushing to keep any grease from shooting out.

Well, you start by stuffing the frame rails with crust free white bread, then you..................

bake the car for 30 minutes at 375 degrees

Yep, white bread is another trick.

Stuff regular old (but fresh) white bread into the pilot bearing's opening.... until you can't stuff anymore in..... then add water.... the bread swells and forces the bearing outward.

Better than grease, use white bread. No mess that way. The grease trick is f-ing messy as shart.
Where do you spread the peanut butter and jelly?

I ended up tapping the bushing and screwing a 3/4 bolt into it.

Came out pretty easy.... Crude but effective.

I use Great Stuff foam - spray a little behind the bushing, then put your thumb over the hole. As the foam expands, it pushes the bushing right out... :EB :wtf :dh

I was going to try that but i am not qualified to operate "Great Stuff"...I am going to get some night classes so i can start using it. I have loads of jobs i need to use it for......

Unfortunately, the only classes that are available are held in Sacramento, by our favorite car maker...but he might start doing online classes.

Do you get a certificate upon completion or a is it a degree?
