Christmas tree

guruatbol

Always on vacation!
I live in a state that seems to not believe in tree lots. Last year we got lucky and bought a tree in town, the year before I went on the mountain and chopped one down, the year before we used a fake one.

This year, well, here goes....

SWMBO and I drove all around town to find the permit to chop down a tree. Many people don't care and just go do it. Problem is it is a federal crime to cut down trees without a permit on US forest service land, which most of it is. Finally we found it and $20 later we were on our way up the hill. 1/2 hour later we were on a narrow snowy road in the slush in 28 degree weather looking for a tree. Well, needless to say we had cold weather gear, but not enough.

Finally found the tree and broke out the chain saw. 2 years ago I went alone and found the perfect tree, cut it and found I had parked up hill from the tree. 8k feet and dragging a tree up. This time the tree was up hill. I tied a rope to it and dragged it down to the truck. Got it in the truck and home we went.

That was day before yesterday. This morning I got the tape out and measured, had to cut 3' off of it to get it to fit and drug it in the house. Now the hard part getting a natural non farm raised tree to stand straight, put the angel on top of a 13' tall tree, remember I cut 3' off. Oh, I had to trim a foot off the top to get the angel to fit too. Oh, now there is lights and decorations...

Total cost in permit and fuel...$30.00.

I'll post pics when we are done making it pretty. Maybe we should start a Christmas tree thread?

I'm sure glad I just gotta go down to my corner to get a tree. Of course I'm a bit lazy and probably won't do that.

All I had to do was go into the basement and carry the box up about 15 steps.
I bought this thing in 1998 and it is still in good shape. Average the cost out and being the cheap fool I am that comes to a cost of about $8 per year. No gas, cold weather gear, and no cutting anything required to fit.

Hehehe, it was 8k foot elevation, I just had to drig it about 75 yards in the snow and about 75 yards around the corner and into the front door.
I got the lights on it tonight. Will finish decoration Monday. Sunday is the day off you know. It looks good, tha Angel is right there at the ceiling. Looks awesome.

I will decorate the house on Monday weather permitting as well.

My daughters are coming home for Christmas and I want them to come home to a cool decorated house.

Gonna make some Mustang chocolate bars next week too.

PS. I have to have the natural smell of pine if I am going to have a tree. Otherwise why have a tree! MH

Around here there are tree farms everywhere. Each year we load up the kids in the SUV and drive there. It is usually a 1/2 day event with hot chocolate and participating in the activities that the tree farm has going on like hay rides. It is pretty cool or should I say cold but the kids love it.

My mom bought a fake tree many years ago. After the first couple years of restringing it with lights, we got smart and left the lights on the tree when we took it down. Now all she does is pull it out of the box, unfold the branches, put ornaments on it, and plug it in. Much less headache.

If I had kids, I'd probably do the real tree thing. We did that when I was growing up and it was always a great experience. But being away from home, it's just not worth it. It's too much hassle for one person (my mom) to deal with.

Now you just have to glue the ornaments on the tree and then when you put it away it will be done. Then bring it out unfold it like an umbrella and bam Christmas in a box.

Or,

Just leave the tree up.

We are kicking around the idea of a indoor spruce in our house. Just put lights on the live tree and decorate it for Christmas. Take the stuff off and put the tree back where it was. Now needles on the carpet from dragging the tree in and other such mess. Pine smell all year.

Hummm.
