Cloud storage.....what cha think?

We have a separate hard drive that works well for backup. If the computer crashes, the hard drive will hook up to any comp. I personally don't trust anything on-line as a back up.

I agree with both. No way would I trust an online backup. As for cloud, Apple sucks in this respect anyway. I can't even get a pic or vid off my Ipod to my computer without downloading some third party software. Maybe if you went to cloud and then back it would work but again, no trust for online backup here.

Use external HD's here with Acronis true image as the utility to back it up. This gives you a mirror image of whats on your HD, OS, partitions, files, etc.

While using an external hard drive for backups, you also need to store that hard drive in a different building/facility when not in use, just in case there's an earthquake, fire, mudslide, etc.

I need to store it separately as well; I don't follow my own advice.

For my office I use an external hard drive that backs up everything. I take that one step further and use the same hard drive at home and use it to backup my office hard drive incase of fire/theft/something else. Seems to work well but I have to say I have not had to use the backups yet. I only redid the system this January. Knock on wood it seem to work well.

I use NAS backup drives for my home network.

For the Mac, I use Time Machine on a separate drive.

I do use Dropbox, but I limit the use to files I want to share with others or I want to be able to access anytime, anywhere, from any computer or smart phone. (Usually, music files for bandmates)

we use our local IT outsourcing group to back up our entire system. It is done over the internet to a hard drive located here in town. In case of a failure, we are just one quick phone call away from being back in service. Yes it is transferred over the net, but we also deal with a very trusted company as a partner in this. It is not that expensive and backs up on a daily basis.

I keep copies of important files like taxes and such on a flash drive and lock it in my safe. The rest of the stuff isn't that important. I make backups to a separate drive and to my file server.

Ok, yu'all have convinced me to stay with local hard drives, so I'll be going out to get a new 1T. external drive for my 4 laptops.

Thanks for the feedback.

I completely disagree, I trust the internet completely, use the cloud and also ask them if they could hold your guns and money too!

I have a wifi 2 TB drive that sits on my home network. All of my pc's at home are backed up onto it....

Clouds are just water vapor....

Sounds like we need to build you your own server Craig.

That's what I'm doing. Back up all our data and have access to it from anywhere.
