Clutch Equalizer Bar Install

New Member
After 30 years off the road,(catastrophe blown engine) I recently completed the rebuild and install of my 351C in my 1970 Mach 1. The problem is I can't install the clutch equalizer bar to the engine side from the frame side or from the frame side to the engine side. There does not seem to be enough room (< 3/4 in) between the engine the end of the equalizer bar. I have jacked up the engine off the mounts, moved the engine toward the passenger side as far as possible to gain more room, but to no avail. I don't want to disconnect the engine from tranny bellhousing again,(doing this alone took me 4 days to connect) but (will if I have to) and start over again. Don't want to go hydraulic, or cable. (No budget for this area) Need a short cut if there is one. Need help. After 35 years I just want to drive this thing before Christmas 2013. Thanks for any help.

Loosen the 2 bolts holding the frame side mount almost all the way out.
slide the mount out and up to install the bar on the balls.
Adjust the mount and tighten the bolts.

Agree with Mach1Rider. Did you loosen the equalizer bar's frame mounting bracket? If so, then you should have plenty of room to install the bar.

Like above, I always install the equalizer rod and then put the bracket in place bolting it down.
