Coil Spring Help-- How to

Is their anyway to figure out information on a set of coils I have? I got them awhile ago with a purchase of parts off a guy. They are black and the coils look to measure 5/8 in diameter. I weigh about 220lbs and when I put all my weight on them they only barely go down maybe a very small amount. Is their anyway to tell more about a pair of springs? Just wondering if I got lucky and these would be good replacements for the stockers for now. They are used coils but look in pretty good shape.

by using that formula: I got k= (.625)to the 4 times 12,000,000 OVER 8 (8) (5 to the 3rd). My final number was 228.881 Does that sound right? seems really low for what that chart shows. Anyone know the stock spring rate on the 67/68 mustangs?

From a quick search I found that a six cylinder stock spring was about 240#. A BB with AC, etc. ran as high as say 350#.

You need to really think about the use of your car when you make spring selection. I know you want an all around set-up but this is one area where the different uses will want/demand very different rates to give best performance. If you will really take it to the track to do one from or another of road course racing, I suggest you go with a fairly stiff front coil. It will hurt you at the strip and make daily driving less comfortable but is an absolute must if you want to do any decent cornering.

There are a number of guys on here who could give you much better, experienced, advice than me the top two I would suggest are, again, Shaun at S or T and John at Opentrackerracingproducts.com

In your shoes, I would go with a lowering coil with a much higher than stock spring rate but check with the experts.

I definitely appreciate all the advice and your time in assisting me with all of my questions all over this forum. I reached out to John and hope to talk to him shortly. Definitely a lot to consider and understand in trying to get the most I can out of the car. obviously it won't be perfect, but I'm hoping it turns out pretty good.
