Just had the power supply on my USB backup disk die - ran to FRYS and got a 2TB USB drive for 80 smackers.

What are you people using for backing up your info?

I have a 350GB drive that use to back up files from my windows drive, a 1TB drive that I use to save backup images of the other 2 drives in the pc, and a file server that I use to back up the backups.

OCD much?

The more anal of us computer folks have two backups, one in separate buildings located far enough away to avoid simultaneous catastrophic damage.

Ahhh...I remember paying $2000 for a 600 MByte hard drive back in 1986.

Nope. After loosing lots of data, family pictures and family video TWICE (slow learner sometimes), I now only buy server drives, have everything on a Linux server with raid 1 array, backed up online, and backed up to an external HD that I take to work (monthly when I remember). Oh, and a 8 GB flash drive I sync our critcal data (finance, etc) and carry with me.

NOTHING data wise goes on our laptops.

I just realized I might be a nerd.

I suspec this maybe the last hard disk I purchase. I had considered getting a solid state drive but they just haven't dropped quite enough yet.

I bet in 2 years or so they'll be taking over, kind the way flat screens have over CRTs, Blu Ray over DVD, VHS over Beta, etc, etc...
