computer migration time

I picked up a surplus desktop pc from work for a song.

I am now trying to migrate the info from the old machine, A to the new machine, B. Machine B becomes the new office puter, and machine A becomes the garage search mule.

Both machines have windows XP professional. Machine A has a 1 TB hard disk in it, Machine B will in an hour (cloning the 160GB to a 1TB as I type).

I need to migrate all of my outlook express info and would also like to migrate the programs installed on the old machine.

I have a hard disk copy program (HDClone) and have also looked at Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

doesn't seem to be a best way.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Almost all applications have to be loaded from the CD onto a computer, due to registry entries. Data files and such can be easily transferred.

At work, we use a program called PC Transplant. It copies everything in a users profile and dumps it into an exe file. The you can run that file on the target pc, and it all transfers over. Unfortunately, it ain't free.

The programs will have to be reinstalled on the new pc. There isn't really a way to transfer them over without doing a compete disk clone.

Here's a step by step on how to backup and transfer your OLEXP stuff.

So you have everything on a 1 TB drive already? And now you want to build another 1 TB drive? How is the 160 GB drive involved here?

Sent from my HTC EVO using tapatalk.

computer A has a 1 TB drive, computer B originally came with a 160GB drive and I have moved that info (XP license, etc) to a 1TB drive for computer B.

I need to keep computer As 1TB drive as is so I can use it in the garage. I will get rid of the 160GB drive or use it as a second disk when it's all said and done.

Grabber70, Thanks for that tip. I bought PC Mover Image version and that saved me a bunch of time.

Still had a few issues with some of the s/w moving completely but it got office, norton ghost and a couple of others loaded no problem.

I had to reload the following s/w:
Network printer server (keyspan)
re-fresh turbo tax
nuance pdf converter

I also need to move my outlook express email history manually (I probably have not archived it) and will do so, it did move my address book.

I am now optimizing the drive and will format the old 160GB drive and prob use that for pictures, etc.

thanks again
